May 18-21, 2012 NYC at WANTED DESIGN

The 12 x 12 exhibition supplies twelve contemporary furniture designers with the reclaimed lumber of twelve demolished New York City buildings. The event will take place at Wanted Design (269 11th Avenue, NYC) during Spring Design Week, May 18-21, 2012.

The salvaged woods represent a range of structures, historical eras and species - from the old growth Pine of the American Express stables in Soho to a WWII era Queens distillary; Meatpacking District Western Fir to Brazilian Ipe from the Coney Island boardwalk. The material culture of these lost buildings will be renewed by contemporary design - a transformation that reflects the magic of New York.

The pieces will be auctioned off to benefit woodworking education and job training in New York City through the non-profit Brooklyn Woods.
